There are several students who did not finish their assignment in math. They have been assigned it for completion tonight; please check with your student! THANKS!
As most of you know, Mr. Parker has developed an online calendar in order to allow parents to keep up with homework and tests. These calendars are easily accessible through our HMS home page.
If you remember, I told you the night of open house that I don’t give homework; the only time students will have home assignments is if we do not complete them in class. Please don’t fret over no homework being posted on the homework calendar. If students have to complete an assignment I will post it on my blog because I never know if they will be able to complete the assignment until the day it is given.
I WILL post tests as they are planned on the test calendar, however.
Have a wonderful evening.
WELCOME BACK!
We have been back to school almost a week! I can’t believe how fast time is already passing by.
In science we have been discussing our lab rules and notebooks . IT IS IMPERITIVE THAT EACH STUDENT HAS A SCIENCE NOTEBOOK! IT CANNOT BE SPIRAL BOUND NOR CAN IT BE ONLY NOTEBOOK PAPER! If there is a problem please let me know; I have some resources that I can use to help. STUDENTS HAVE A LAB SAFETY SHEET THAT MUST BE SIGNED AND RETURNED TOMORROW IN ORDER TO PARTICIPATE IN LAB. Please ask them about it if they do not remember to show it to you.
In math we are discussing divisibility rules. Students are beginning to realize that multiplication is a MUST in 6th grade so help them by working on their multiplication tables. We have no homework tonight other than study for their multiplication test on Friday. I will be returning their tests tomorrow–I must say I was pleased with the results! Many of the students will not have to retest because they made a 90 or better this past week.
I am looking forward to a productive year. Don’t forget to contact me if you have any problems that need to be addressed! THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT!~
April 21
Wow! Only 6 more weeks until the end of school. This year has really gone by in a hurry! I hope all of you had a restful break. I know I enjoyed my time at the beach.
Despite what your children may have come home and told you, I AM NOT having a baby! This little tidbit was the result of someone twisting my WONDERFUL news that MY DAUGHTER is having a baby! We believe the baby will be here sometime in December and look forward to him/HER joining our family.
In Science, we are finishing up our unit on the planets. I had told some of my classes to finish their brochures at home tonight but have since changed my mind. They will be allowed to finish them in class tomorrow.
In Math we are finishing our symmetry quilt. The students are taking today to finish their designs and we will display them at the end of the week. There is NO homework.
Now, for some end of school updates:

Week of March 22
Greetings Parents!
This week we begin testing. We are asking that all students be present, on time, and well rested! Please do not give them sugary breakfasts during this week because sugar causes an instant rush only to result in a brain crash quickly. Protein is the best for testing.
Please make sure students are well rested. We know that ball season has started, however, we are asking to please remind coaches that the students are testing and need to be in the bed at a decent time for the next few weeks.
Attendance is imperitive. Please do not allow students to remain at home unless ill and please do not schedule doctors or dentists appointments during the morning hours over the testing period.
Finally, there will be no homework given by me this week because students will follow different schedules daily.
Thanks for all of your cooperation; I know that HMS will shine when testing results are released this summer.

WHEW! What a WEEK!
We have been busy celebrating reading and writing across America this week. The students have been treated to the movie “Tom Sawyer”, today they are dressing like a character from the movie and we will have a Jazz concert this afternoon, and on Friday we will be treated to a visit by none other than Mark Twain! The students have really enjoyed themselves.
On another note, we are winding down toward the SAT/ARMT which will begin a week from today. WE ASK THAT YOU HAVE YOUR STUDENT AT SCHOOL ON TIME AND WELL RESTED DURING THIS PERIOD! Please make sure they eat breakfast and that it is not a sugary treat. Sugar gives you an immediate boost but the crash creates problems, especially during testing when it is imperative that the student stays alert.
There is no homework tonight so enjoy yourself in your mid week service or what ever you plan to do as a family!
Monday, March 8
WHAT A BEAUTIFUL DAY IN OUR NEIGHBORHOOD!
Spring is FINALLY here and we took full advantage of it today using the outdoors as our classroom in science. Ask your student and MAYBE they will share their “bounty” with you! ( you will be well rewarded if they do)
NO HOMEWORK IN MATH! I was real pleased with 98% of the grades on our test Friday. You child knows their grade so make sure and ask them about it.
HAVE A WONDERFUL AFTERNOON!
WILL THIS SNOW EVER BE OVER! There, I feel better now! I cannot believe the winter weather has lasted this long. BUT there is a reason and it has to do with sun spots. Yes, you heard me correctly, SUN SPOTS. We will be studying about them over the next few days in science along with the beginning of our space race. This would make great conversation around the dinner table so ask your child about what is going on in science–you might be surprised at what you find out!
In math, we are completing chapter 8 which is their first “real” look at integers. ( that’s positive/negative numbers to us ole folk!–LOL). We have been plotting them on the Coordinate Plane along with adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing. We will be having a test tomorrow on this chapter so FOR HOMEWORK–COMPLETE THE CHAPTER TEST ON PAGE 327; this assignment is for BOTH CLASSES!
Have a wonderful evening!

Hello HMS Parents!
I realize it has been several days since the last posting but I have had some family issues that I had to deal with which limited my time in the afternoons. I realize that is not your fault and all I can ask is that you forgive me! My dad is much better now and I thank those students and parents who included him in their prayers.
In math we are studying coordinate planes. IT IS IMPERITIVE THAT YOUR STUDENT HAVE GRAPH PAPER! Please get this item as soon as possible so they will be able to participate in class from this point on. We will be graphing coordinate pairs, creating angles, and doing several other things with the graph paper so they need it ASAP.
Students in my morning class (3-4) do not have homework tonight. Students in the after noon class will finish their classwork for homework.
We will be having a test on Friday of this week (chapter) so we will be reviewing for it all week.
In science, we are beginning an extensive study of the solar system. Students began creating their covers for their intergalactic book today in class. They will be placing information in this book as we proceed through the solar system studying each planet extensively. This will turn into their final grade for this section so no work is allowed @ home.
Thanks for all you do for HMS!~
This month is flying by! It is hard to believe that there are only 8 school days left in this month of February. After all the bad weather we have had this month, though, I am GLAD that some warmer weather is just around the corner~
For homework tonight, both math classes should finish their classwork. We are starting positive and negative integers so some of them may have questions concerning their homework. If you cannot answer them, don’t worry. Just have them mark the problems that they do not understand and we will go over them tomorrow in class.
In science we are studying the moon phases along with the moon’s trek around the earth. We will be analyzing the different phase names along with the reasons behind the phase formation.
Have a wonderful evening!~
